Yo, iM@S fans. Admit it. You sometimes get tired of waving glowsticks and watching idols bounce around on stage. Sometimes.
Sometimes you like being the one holding the microphone, right?
We’ll let you in on a secret. We sing iDOLM@STER songs at karaoke too. Mostly these ones.
1. THE iDOLM@STER
Holy otaku, that’s a lot of voice actresses! (We’ll tell you about our faves another time.)
Some karaoke songs instantly change the mood in the room. THE iDOLM@STER is that song. Check the translated lyrics for a peppy kick in the pants.
“Advancing every day, heading for that dream,
With unambiguous intentions.
When you want to cry, shed those tears.
Don’t let stress build up!”
2. Go My Way!
One of the originals – and still one of the best iDOLM@STER tunes ever. Ever, we say!
Simple melodies make this song easy to belt out. Easier than The Live Kakumei de SHOW!, anyway. It’s another ‘be positive… eventually’ tune:
Sometimes iM@S songs show up in Taiko no Tatsujin. (Yay for Bandai Namco crossovers!) Go My Way! is surprisingly drummable. Try it with the tambourine you always find in Japanese karaoke rooms.
3. Anzu no Uta
WE NEED MAYDAY. GIVE US OUR RIGHTS.
Crazy, and crazy fast. With crazy lyrics. And it references ‘Agent, Yoru wo Yuku’ in the chorus to make Anzu look like an idol fangirl. That’s so meta.
“I don’t want to work. I don’t want to do anything. I don’t want anyone to ask me to do anything. I want to have fun. I want to go to sleep. 24 hours a day, every day of the year’s a holiday.”
We’re all Anzu Futaba, really.
Getting your audience to do the ‘nai nai’ and ‘tai tai’ bits on cue is super important.
4. Kyun! Vampire Girl
Okay, you need ‘the voice’ for this song.
The voice of a vampire with more thirst than a houseplant. And just a hint of seriously annoying.
That squeaky ‘ojousamaAAA’ line should sound like someone stepped on your foot. Get the ‘haaaaa~n’ bit right as well, and the rest is easy.
“The 2nd hottest person is fine. Wait, as long as they’re human it’s alright. I won’t get extravagant.”
Well, that (de)escalated quickly.
5. Mahou wo Kakete!
Well, if you love that textbook so much, why don’t you marry it?
Channel your inner love-struck teen, and sing your throbbing heart out. You’re looking for a fairytale prince under your desk. Maybe you bumped your head down there already, and you’re dreaming all this stuff up.
Magic feels like the only way to find love when you’re young and desperate. It’s a shame most people don’t discover online dating until they’re older. And the magic’s worn off, and everyone looks like a frog.
We’ll be back in one of those cramped, not-at-all soundproofed rooms soon. So what are we gonna sing next time? Give us a shout on Twitter with your kami picks.
