Introduction
For fans of Japanese goods and worldwide otakus, there are dozens of Japan proxy services out there that can buy and ship your dream items. But there are so many to choose from! Some big names include ZenMarket, Neokyo, FromJapan/OneMap, and Sendico, to name a few. In this article though, we’ll be focusing on Buyee and DEJAPAN.
Buyee is well-established as one of the largest proxy services in Japan. DEJAPAN, on the other hand, serves as an alternative to Buyee, offering its own unique value to shoppers that only a smaller service can provide.
Fee charts aside, we know it can be difficult to get a feel for the difference between Japan proxy services. That’s why we decided to test both Buyee and DEJAPAN firsthand to get a true start-to-finish understanding of each proxy. From sign-up to final delivery—we’ll be comparing them based on real orders and real user experience.

3. How We Tested Buyee and DEJAPAN
To make sure the testing and follow-up comparison was truly equal, we made sure to keep our baseline the same for each order. Our testing criteria was as follows:

First, we’ll explore what happens before you make a purchase—from signing up and finding items to navigating each site and getting help when you need it. Ordering might be the main event, but these steps can make a big difference, especially if you have questions or run into trouble. They’re worth looking into!
Eager to get straight to buying? Jump to Section 6 for ordering, fees, and 1st Payment checkout.
4. Pre-Purchase Journey
Before we could buy anything, we had to get set up and find our way around. Sounds simple enough, right? But a confusing website—or a bug along the way—can make shopping a lot more frustrating than it needs to be.
So how do Buyee and DEJAPAN compare before you even place an order?
We checked three key parts of the experience:
- Website Navigation
- Item Search & Order Requests
- Mobile Experience
Let’s get started!
Buyee
We started with Buyee, checking how easy it was to get set up, find our way around, and track down the items we wanted. Our first stop was the app, and before we could even sign up, we hit a small hurdle.
Turns out, you can’t create an account in the app. It only lets you log in, so we had to head over to the website to sign up first. Not a big deal, but certainly a minor setback.

Then, while translating the sign-up page, we noticed something pretty unfortunate.
*Bug Alert*
Canada kept being translated as “Club” in the country list.
Even with the website already set to our preferred language, the auto-translate feature seemed to translate the page all over again. This will inevitably result in some strange mistranslations throughout your shopping experience. So keep a lookout for that!
There were a few hiccups along the way, including what seemed to be a glitch—not exactly ideal. But overall, making an account with Buyee was relatively quick and straightforward. Pretty much what you’d expect from a typical website sign-up.
Website Navigation
Buyee is a large company, so it makes sense to have a lot of information to organize. We felt, though, that the information could have been arranged more simply and intuitively. It just felt cluttered and overwhelming most of the time.
Here are a few of the pages we took a closer look at.
Homepage
Buyee’s homepage makes it easy to spot current deals and jump into a storefront. But with so much competing for your attention, figuring out where to start can feel a little overwhelming.

What is Buyee?
The “What is Buyee” page has plenty of information, but the crowded sidebar and unclear categories made it hard to find answers. Even after reading everything, we weren’t quite sure what counted as an “order” for the 500 JPY service fee.

The “FAQ” Page
Buyee’s FAQ shows three common questions per category. If your question isn’t listed, you’ll need to click “Read more” to see the rest. It keeps the page tidy, but finding an answer can take a few extra clicks.

Item Search & Order Requests
Honestly, it’s so hard to find a good search function on Japan proxy sites. Buyee is no different. If you like browsing for items, each storefront page offers popular item categories to get users started.

https://buyee.jp/amazon/?lang=en
https://buyee.jp/mercari/?lang=en
Have a specific type of item in mind? Well, then you’ll only be able to search one platform at a time (with the exception of secondhand stores). Buyee does not yet offer a sitewide search bar that checks all their store platforms at once.
Most proxy services let you order items by pasting the item URL into a request form. Buyee is no exception. When you order items through Buyee’s “Order Request” system, every order has to first be “confirmed” before it’s accepted into your cart. During our testing, it took nearly 24 hours for one of our items to be added.
Buyee does have a pretty sweet browser extension that lets you add items directly to your Buyee cart from pre-approved sites. It’s super convenient and easy to use, with minimal disruption to your shopping experience. Plus, when using the extension, that “confirmation” step doesn’t take place like with the request form. The item is added to the cart immediately.
Mobile Experience
But what if you prefer shopping on your phone? We checked out both Buyee’s mobile site and its app to see how they compare.
While Buyee does have a mobile version of their main website, we found it to be a little on the basic side. The header menu was a simple block design, with an additional pop-up menu in the upper corner. Other than that, the rest of the page was rather similar to the desktop version of the site. Perfectly functional, but nothing particularly impressive.

The Buyee app is a little better with cleaner menu navigation. But the pages themselves look like they were imported directly from the main site. Other than the menu, there wasn’t too much of a difference from the mobile site.
Still, having a dedicated app was a plus. Even without any standout features, keeping everything in one place made shopping feel a little more convenient than managing it all through a browser.
That wraps up our experience with Buyee’s website.
DEJAPAN
Next, we put DEJAPAN through the same steps—from account registration to figuring out how to order items. First up: signing up.
Right off the bat, DEJAPAN’s sign-up form is A LOT more intense than Buyee’s. While Buyee kind of eases you into the registration process, asking for just an email address, password, and country, DEJAPAN feels like they want to know your whole life story.
We’ll admit it…it’s a bit overwhelming for a sign-up page. While we have our reasons for requesting some of this information, as a new user, it definitely feels like a lot.
Website Navigation
Between the two sites, DEJAPAN’s website is the simpler one. But we found simple to be better when it comes to site navigation.
Homepage
The homepage has a large banner carousel with some of their main campaigns and highlights, with a clean header menu at the top of the page. The menu options are intuitive and easy to see.

New User Guide
Unlike Buyee, DEJAPAN’s New User Guide jumps to a separate landing page, almost like it wants to isolate the user from the main site. Then, instead of a tsunami of information, this guide provides the most basic information a new user would want to know.

Admittedly, the information in this New User Guide isn’t the most comprehensive. But if the new user still has questions after reading the whole page, DEJAPAN does clearly recommend users to contact Customer Service for more information. And for more complicated questions, asking a real staff member is always the best way to get the most accurate answer.
FAQ/Frequently Asked Questions
For those who’d rather search the site for answers instead of asking directly, DEJAPAN’s “Frequently Asked Questions” page is super easy to navigate. All the categories are listed on the left side in a sidebar, so you can jump categories with ease. Not sure which section will answer your question best? You can also scroll through all the questions on the right side, and expand each question one-by-one until you find what you’re looking for..

Item Search & Order Requests
DEJAPAN boasts a multi-platform search bar, allowing for a broader search for that one item you’ve been looking for. Let’s say you search for “Pikachu plushies.” DEJAPAN will list all the Pikachu plush doll listings from its integrated platforms all at once.
That being said, DEJAPAN doesn’t have a good setup for casual browsing across categories at this time. If you’re not sure what you want to buy yet, then it may be a little difficult to browse freely.
A Note on Search Speed
Both Buyee and DEJAPAN’s search functions are a bit slow.
It takes a little time for the search results to appear.
Already found the exact listing you want to buy? Then try DEJAPAN’s Request Form! During our testing, DEJAPAN processed our requests within the same business day—within 24 hours (compared to 2-3 days for Buyee).
Mobile Experience
How does DEJAPAN feel when you use it on your phone? We took a look at its mobile site to find out.
At this time, DEJAPAN’s mobile site is the main way users can shop on their phone. While the site is technically optimized for mobile use, it’s far from perfect.
The mobile site, much like Buyee, is nearly identical to the web version. Moreover, there were some formatting issues from the auto-optimization that blocked some of the text (particularly in the blog section).
However, DEJAPAN’s mobile menu was simpler and cleaner than Buyee’s multiple menu setup, so that was a positive for us when testing out both sites.

Overall, the mobile site was functional and relatively easy to use, but the inconsistent formatting was a slight drawback for us.
🏆 Our Verdict: Buyee vs. DEJAPAN (Before You Buy)
This one was a split decision. Buyee had the edge with its shopping tools, while DEJAPAN stood out for making information and items easier to find.
🏆 Shopping Tools: Buyee
Buyee’s dedicated app and browser extension earned it extra points. The app made shopping feel a little more convenient, but the browser extension was the real highlight. Adding items from supported sites directly to our cart without the extra request form steps was hard to beat.
🏆 Website Navigation & Search: DEJAPAN
DEJAPAN’s simpler layout made it easier to find the information we needed, and its multi-platform search saved us from searching each marketplace separately. Casual browsing could be better, but when we knew what we wanted, DEJAPAN made the search easier.
Ultimately, it comes down to how you shop. Buyee offers more tools for convenience, while DEJAPAN keeps navigation and searching more straightforward.
5. Customer Service Showdown
Finding an item is one thing. Getting a clear answer when you’re unsure about fees or shipping? That can make all the difference before you click “buy.”
We contacted both services about the same topics to see how quickly they replied, how approachable their communication felt, and whether their answers helped us move forward.
Support Channels Used:
- Buyee: Email, live chat, and Discord tickets
- DEJAPAN: The website’s Contact Us form
**Since the channels differed, this was a comparison of our actual support experiences rather than a perfectly identical test.
Q1: Shipping Estimates: How Much Help Can You Get Before Buying?
We asked about shipping a small, lightweight package to the Philippines, including the available methods, estimated costs, and delivery times.
Buyee
Buyee initially directed us to its shipping calculator. When we followed up with a specific item URL, they explained that they couldn’t provide an estimate without knowing the final package size and weight.
That’s an understandable limitation, but it left us to work out an estimate ourselves.
DEJAPAN
DEJAPAN also asked for an item URL. After we provided one, they put together estimated shipping costs for the available methods, while emphasizing that the final price could change once the parcel was packed.
Neither service could guarantee the shipping cost upfront. The difference was that DEJAPAN helped us build an estimate, giving us more information to work with before committing to a purchase.
Q2: Fees and Protection: Were the Explanations Clear?
We also asked how fees and protection would work when combining multiple orders.
Buyee
Buyee gave us a detailed explanation: plan fees apply per order, and consolidating orders doesn’t extend one order’s coverage to the others. Items ordered under an insured plan would retain their coverage, while items under the Lite Plan wouldn’t gain that protection simply by sharing a box.
The answer was clear enough that we didn’t need to ask follow-up questions. Credit where it’s due—this was genuinely helpful.
DEJAPAN
Since DEJAPAN doesn’t use the same plan system, we adjusted the question to ask whether combining orders would affect their service and handling fees.
DEJAPAN was straightforward and quick to clear up our misunderstandings about the fees. The explanation was easy to follow.
Response Speed and Follow-Up Support
Buyee’s Discord team replied within 15 minutes during our testing. That was quick! However, some replies directed us back to website information rather than resolving our specific question. Our live chat experience was polite, but we sometimes needed further clarification.
DEJAPAN’s response times varied, with weekday replies arriving within 24 hours and some coming within 30 minutes to a few hours. What stood out was the follow-up: when we had additional questions, the replies addressed our particular situation and helped us understand what to do next.
These were the response times we experienced, so your results may vary depending on the channel, timing, and question.
🏆 Our Customer Service Pick: DEJAPAN
Buyee offered more ways to get in touch, and its detailed explanation of plan coverage showed that its support could be helpful. For our inquiries, though, DEJAPAN provided more hands-on assistance—especially when we needed help estimating shipping before buying.
Buyee’s responses tended to feel like explanations straight from a manual, while DEJAPAN’s felt more like a conversation with a knowledgeable staff member. When we needed further clarification, they took the time to talk through our specific situation.
That extra guidance left us feeling more confident about moving forward with a purchase, earning DEJAPAN our pick for customer service in this test.
6. 1st Payment: Payment Methods, Fees & Checkout
With our accounts set up and items picked out, it was time to place our orders! We’ll walk through the payment options, the fees involved, and how clearly each service presented the final amount at checkout.
Payment Methods
First things first: how can you pay?
Both services accept cards and PayPal, but Buyee offers more regional payment options.
| Payment Method | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| Cards | Visa, Mastercard, JCB, China UnionPay | Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club |
| PayPal | Yes | Yes |
| Regional options | Alipay, FPX, iDEAL | Wero, Przelewy24 | None listed |
| Points | — | DEJ Points |
Buyee’s regional options have country and currency restrictions and are only available for fixed-price purchases—not auction bids. For orders and bids with an item value of 900,000 JPY or more, Buyee also supports funding a Buyee Wallet through Wise.
DEJAPAN’s listed payment methods can be used for both shopping orders and auction bids. Payments are processed in JPY, with currency conversion handled by your card company or PayPal.
To sum it up, if you usually pay by card or PayPal, both services cover the basics—just check that your card brand is supported. Buyee’s wider selection is more useful if you prefer a regional payment service.
A Note on External Processing Fees
Additional external processing fees may apply to different payment methods, depending on the credit card company or service provider. This is the case for both Buyee and DEJAPAN.
Service Fees: Per Order vs. Per URL
Now that we’ve covered how to pay, let’s look at what you’ll be paying.
“Buyee is 500 JPY; DEJAPAN is 300 JPY. Obviously, DEJAPAN is cheaper!”
At a glance, it’s easy to think Buyee and DEJAPAN’s service fees can be compared on a one-to-one basis. But in actuality, Buyee and DEJAPAN’s fee structures are a little different, and can’t be compared so simply.
| Fee | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| Base Service Fee | 500 JPY per ORDER | 300 JPY per URL |
With Buyee, multiple items from the same shop may share one service fee. Purchases from different shops are processed as separate orders, each charged 500 JPY.
DEJAPAN charges 300 JPY per URL, so ordering from several listings means paying the fee for each one.
Key Takeaway:
- For a single URL from a regular online shop, DEJAPAN’s base fee is lower.
- For multiple listings from the same shop, Buyee may work out cheaper.
Additional Fees & Options
As we mentioned before, Buyee and DEJAPAN’s fees and features aren’t perfect direct comparisons. DEJAPAN’s service fee may be higher than Buyee’s in certain cases, but we need to consider what kind of services are included in these fees.
DEJAPAN’s Flea Market & Auction Handling Fees
The site you buy from also matters. DEJAPAN adds a 500 JPY handling fee per URL for flea market and auction purchases, bringing the combined service and handling fees to 800 JPY per URL.
Buyee’s service fee remains 500 JPY per order, with no separate handling fee for these purchases.
But the fees alone don’t tell the whole story. Next, let’s look at what inspection and protection each service includes.

What’s the difference between all these proxies?
These proxies are just a fraction of what’s available. There are tons of different services to choose from. Since DEJAPAN is one of the many proxy shopping services out there, we went ahead and made a blog post comparing some of the most popular ones. If you’re on team proxy, be sure to check it out!
👉 Japanese Proxy Services Compared: How Does DEJAPAN Stack Up?
Buyee’s Item Inspection and Protection Plans
Many proxy services, including DEJAPAN, include item inspection and shipping protection in their standard fees. Buyee works a little differently. These features depend on the plan you select for each order.
There are four options:
| Plan | Fee per ORDER | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Plan | 500 JPY | Includes item inspection AND insurance coverage for lost or damaged items (only for items with this plan) |
| Insured Delivery Plan | 500 JPY | Includes insurance for coverage for any lost or damaged items during international shipping (only for orders/items with this plan) |
| Inspection Plan | 300 JPY | Includes item inspection only (check for correct size/color/quantity or for noticeable damage) |
| Lite Plan | 0 JPY | No coverage for item damage/loss, or any difference in item quality or options (size, color, quantity, etc.) |
To keep the service levels similar during our testing, we chose Buyee’s Standard Plan.
Our two purchases—from Suruga-ya and an external online shop—were treated as separate orders. That meant 1,000 JPY per order for the service fee and Standard Plan, or 2,000 JPY altogether. The equivalent DEJAPAN service fees would have been 600 JPY for the two URLs, with inspection and shipping protection included—a difference of 1,400 JPY before DEJAPAN’s transaction fees.
What is DEJAPAN’s Transaction Fee? Let’s take a closer look in the next section.
DEJAPAN’s Transaction Fee
DEJAPAN’s Transaction Fee is calculated as a percentage of the payment amount. It applies whenever you make a payment—including the 1st Payment, 2nd Payment, and additional service payments—except when paying with DEJ Points. The rate may vary by payment method, and the exact fee amount is displayed before you confirm each payment.
**This type of percentage-based fee is also charged by other proxy services, often when you add funds to your account rather than at checkout.
Buyee, on the other hand, doesn’t list a separate, equivalent transaction fee.
–
Putting all this together, the base service fee is only part of the picture. Protection plans and payment fees can add to your total, and what’s included differs between services. Comparing the total cost alongside the services you receive gives you a better sense of value for money.
So, with similar levels of inspection and protection selected, how much does placing an order actually cost? Let’s walk through the first-payment checkout and see how the fees come together!
1st Payment Checkout
Both services showed a fee breakdown before payment. Here’s what we paid at this stage with Buyee’s Standard Plan selected to keep inspection and protection levels similar.
| 1st Payment Breakdown | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| Item Price | 2,770 | 2,770 |
| Service Fees | 1,000 | 600 |
| Optional Plan Fees | 1,000 | Included |
| Flea Market/Auction Fees | N/A | 0 |
| Payment/Transaction Fees | N/A | 123 |
| 1st Payment Total | 4,770 JPY | 3,493 JPY |
With identical item prices, our 1st Payment totaled 4,770 JPY with Buyee and 3,493 JPY with DEJAPAN. Even after accounting for each service’s fees—including Buyee’s Standard Plan and DEJAPAN’s Transaction Fee—DEJAPAN’s total was 1,277 JPY lower.
Removing Buyee’s optional plan fees brings its total to 3,770 JPY. DEJAPAN still comes out 277 JPY cheaper, with inspection and shipping protection included.
After Payment: How Long Until the Items Were Purchased?
Payment was completed—but had our items actually been purchased? Well, not yet.
We tracked how long each service took to complete the purchases after we submitted and paid for our orders.
| Purchase Processing Time | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| From order submission and payment to purchase completion | 2-4 days | within 24 hours |
For limited-stock or secondhand listings, this wait can make a difference. Submitting an order doesn’t necessarily mean the item has been secured. DEJAPAN completed our purchases sooner in this test, though processing times may vary depending on the site and whether any details need to be confirmed.
🏆 The 1st Payment Winner: DEJAPAN
For our test purchases, DEJAPAN came out ahead on cost. With identical item prices and similar inspection and protection selected, its total was 1,277 JPY cheaper—including its Transaction Fee.
Skipping Buyee’s optional plan would have narrowed the gap, but DEJAPAN would still have cost less while including inspection and shipping protection.
DEJAPAN also completed our purchases sooner—within 24 hours, compared to the 2-4 day timeframe for Buyee. For items that might sell out, a shorter wait can be the deciding factor.
Together, the lower cost and faster purchase processing makes DEJAPAN our winner for this round. Results may vary depending on the sites you buy from, the number of listings, and the protection you choose, so compare the full cost and ordering conditions for your own purchase.
Once the purchases were done, the next step was waiting for the items to reach the warehouse—and deciding how long to keep them there.
7. Storing Your Haul: Storage Limits & Overages
Buying from several shops? You might want to wait until everything arrives before shipping it together. That’s where warehouse storage comes in—but free storage periods, extension fees, and final deadlines can affect how you plan your haul.
Free Warehouse Storage Limits
DEJAPAN offers 60 days of free storage as a baseline, compared to Buyee’s 30 days. That gives you more time to collect orders before arranging a shipment.
| Buyee | DEJAPAN | |
|---|---|---|
| Free Storage Period | 30 days | 60-100 days **varies by User Rank** |
| Storage days stop counting when… | 2nd Payment (shipping fees) have been paid | 2nd Payment (shipping fees) have been paid |
Storage generally starts when an order reaches the warehouse.
A Note on DEJAPAN’s Storage Period
For orders containing multiple items, the clock starts only after all items in that order have arrived!
Both proxies continue counting storage days during packing, up until you pay the international shipping fees. If you’re approaching the end of your free period, leave time for packing and payment. Requesting packing alone won’t stop the clock!
You can see how many free storage days you have left when looking at the order details on both Buyee and DEJAPAN.
Storage Overage Fees
Both services charge daily extension fees once free storage runs out.
The differences are how those fees are calculated and how consolidating orders affects them.
- Buyee: The daily rate increases with package weight.
- DEJAPAN: A flat 100 JPY per order, per day, regardless of weight.
Here’s Buyee’s storage extension fee breakdown:
| Weight of an Order’s “Package” | Storage “Extension” Fee |
|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg | 100 JPY/day (per order) |
| Over 10 kg, up to 20 kg | 200 JPY/day (per order) |
| Over 20 kg | 300 JPY/day (per order) |
What Happens When You Combine Orders?
With Buyee, extension fees for consolidated orders are calculated using the oldest order’s storage period—even if newer orders still have free storage remaining. You can find examples on Buyee’s storage guide.
With DEJAPAN, each order keeps its own storage period. You only pay for orders that have actually exceeded their free limit.
For example, suppose you combine these three orders:
| Order | Storage Status | DEJAPAN Overage Fee |
|---|---|---|
| #1 | 3 days overdue | 300 |
| #2 | 40 free days remaining | 0 |
| #3 | 12 free days remaining | 0 |
| Total | 300 |
Combining them doesn’t trigger extra storage charges for Orders #2 and #3. That makes it easier to add newer purchases to your shipment without changing their storage deadlines.
Expiration Timers and Item Disposal
Storage extension fees give you extra time, but there’s still a limit. Both services have a maximum storage period, after which unshipped items may be discarded.
| Deadline / Reminder | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum Storage | 90 days (3 months) | 180 days (6 months) |
| Reminder Notification | Usually seven days before free storage expires | Around one month before the final deadline |
※ These reminders cover different deadlines. Buyee’s is regarding free storage, while DEJAPAN’s refers to the maximum storage period. DEJAPAN doesn’t currently send free storage expiry reminders.
DEJAPAN’s final reminder gives you time to either:
- Arrange shipping and pay the outstanding fees, or
- Pay the outstanding fees and request disposal (disposal fees apply)
You can check remaining free storage days and overdue days in your order details on both services.
[Screenshots of Buyee and DEJAPAN, showing remaining storage days]

If you don’t take action before the final deadline, your items may be disposed of, and outstanding fees may lead to account restrictions. Make sure to check your account regularly to avoid storage charges and missed deadlines!
🏆 Storage Limits Winner: DEJAPAN
DEJAPAN takes this round with a longer free storage period, a higher maximum storage limit, and a straightforward daily extension fee. When combining orders, you only pay storage fees for the orders that actually exceed their free storage limits.
That gives you more flexibility to build your haul without rushing to ship everything at once. The reminder before the final deadline is a helpful extra. Just remember to keep track of your free storage days!
8. 2nd Payment: Shipping Estimates & International Options
Our items had reached the warehouse—now it was time to get them to Canada! We compared shipping estimates, consolidation, and the available delivery options before completing our 2nd Payment.
Shipping Calculators and Estimates
International shipping is not cheap, and it’s often the biggest surprise to proxy users. As such, it’s completely reasonable to want to get an estimated shipping cost before placing an order. Both Buyee and DEJAPAN have shipping calculators on their site, but they vary greatly in their reliability and accuracy.
Buyee lets you enter the destination, package weight, and optional dimensions. Including dimensions is useful when comparing methods that charge according to parcel size as well as weight.

DEJAPAN uses the destination and weight, without an option to enter dimensions. Its calculator displays Japan Post estimates, rather than DHL and UPS rates. For help estimating those options, you can contact Customer Service with the item details.

Buyee’s calculator gives you more ways to explore shipping options upfront, while DEJAPAN offers a starting point for Japan Post rates. Either way, you should treat the result as an estimate. The final cost depends on your packed parcel and the methods available.
Consolidation: Combining Orders for Shipping
Unlike other Japan proxy services, consolidating orders for shipping is free with both Buyee and DEJAPAN. Once you’re ready to ship, select the orders you want to ship together, request packing, and add the Protective Packing option at this stage if needed.
In Buyee’s case, they’ll show you the shipping cost of a single package (ie., “order”) and let you select your shipping method right away. But once you select multiple packages, the screen will change and lead you to “consolidate your packages” instead.

One feature we especially liked during our testing was the display at the top of the consolidation page, listing how many batteries were contained in each package (lithium ion, external, and built-in batteries). We felt that this information is good to be aware of when consolidating, as lithium batteries can restrict your shipping options. It makes it easier to plan which orders you want to ship together.
DEJAPAN’s packing requests happen directly on the “Orders in Warehouse” page. It doesn’t show any information about batteries that may be included, but it does provide the arrival weight of the orders. This information is also helpful when planning out shipments and their costs.

One detail we appreciated on DEJAPAN was the delivery address preview. Buyee showed only our saved address nickname, so we couldn’t check the full address directly on that screen.
Shipping Carrier Options
Even without testing, it’s easy to see that Buyee offers a wider range of shipping options overall. However, not every method will be available for every parcel—your destination, package size, weight, and contents can affect the choices.
| Shipping Methods | Buyee | DEJAPAN |

- Small Packet (Air)
SAL was marked as unavailable, while UPS and DHL weren’t displayed for our parcel.
The selection screen showed prices, estimated delivery times, and shipping conditions. EMS was marked as “recommended,” though the reason wasn’t explained. There was plenty of information, but comparing the options meant a lot of scrolling in the app.
We selected AIR Packet (Air) at 1,893 JPY, as it was the cheapest option with tracking available to us. This matched the estimate from Buyee’s calculator.

DEJAPAN
All of DEJAPAN’s listed shipping options were available for our parcel. The screen showed the methods, courier logos, and prices together. Delivery estimates and conditions were available if you expanded each option. We found this easier to scan and compare.
We selected Small Packet at 1,900 JPY—just 7 JPY more than Buyee’s selected option. It was also cheaper than our earlier calculator estimate, because Small Packet hadn’t appeared among the calculator’s options.

Shipping Warnings & Notifications
Both services provided disclaimers and warnings regarding certain shipping methods and customs duties.
Buyee’s disclaimers focused mostly on shipping and delivery risks, particularly with Surface mail (or “Seamail”) and Small Packet (Air).
- Surface Mail: Recommendation for “Protective Packing” due to the high number of damage reports with this method.
- Small Packet (Air): Tracking and insurance is not available, even with the Standard or Insured Delivery Plan.
It’s also worth noting that Buyee does allow customers to alter their item information on the customs invoice, including:
- Item name/description
- Item value
- HS/HTS/TARIC codes
DEJAPAN’s warnings and disclaimers covered various aspects of shipping, including but not limited to:
- Address restrictions for certain shipping methods
- Customs duty payments
- Shipping fees/options vary by size, weight, parcel contents, or destination country
**DEJAPAN does not allow alterations to item value on the customs invoice. However, if you wish to alter the item name or import code, DEJAPAN’s Customer Service may be able to accommodate your request.
Prohibited & Restricted Items
No warnings about prohibited or restricted items were provided during 2nd Payment.
You can reference the “Prohibited Items” pages on Buyee and DEJAPAN’s websites for more information.
🏆 2nd Payment Winner: Buyee
When it comes to 2nd Payment and shipping, Buyee is the clear winner here. Buyee offers more shipping options, and their shipping calculator is able to provide better estimates.
We were pleasantly surprised that DEJAPAN’s shipping fees were similar to Buyee’s rates, and DEJAPAN’s 2nd Payment system was easier to use.
Most proxy users want a wider variety of shipping options, though, so Buyee is our pick for a better 2nd Payment experience.
9. Special Services, Coupons, & Purchase Flexibility
Fees and shipping aren’t the only things that can influence your choice. What if you want to bid on a Mercari auction, request specific item photos, or buy something that isn’t a physical product?
Here’s where the differences between Buyee and DEJAPAN become more noticeable.
Online Flea Market & Auction Support
Both services support Mercari, Rakuten Rakuma, JDirectItems Fleamarket, and JDirectItems Auction.
But their auction coverage differs in two notable ways:
- Buyee supports LuxeWholesale, an auction platform featuring preowned luxury goods from major Japanese B2B wholesalers. Overseas buyers can access it exclusively through its partnership with Buyee, and all auction items are authenticated. Snipe bidding isn’t available for these auctions.
- DEJAPAN supports Mercari Auctions, giving you another way to shop for secondhand finds beyond Mercari’s fixed-price listings. If something you want is listed as an auction, you can still go for it—just submit the listing and your desired bid amount through DEJAPAN’s Request Form. Bids are placed manually, so snipe bids and automated incremental bidding aren’t available.
Additional Services: What Can You Request?
It’s important to also consider what kind of special services Buyee and DEJAPAN offer. While there is definitely some overlap between the two, there are also some services that are unique to each proxy.
Buyee and DEJAPAN Special Service Comparison
| Service | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| Protective Packing | 1,500 JPY per box | 1,000 JPY per box |
| Photo Service | 300 JPY per order (5 photos) | 300 JPY per order (minimum 5 photos) |
| Seller Inquiries | Available | Available (100 JPY per item URL, per question) |
| Price Negotiations | Not available | Available through seller inquiry requests |
| Shipping in Japan | Available (*restrictions apply) | Available (*restrictions apply) |
※ Domestic Shipping Restrictions:
– Buyee excludes Mercari and LuxeWholesale orders.
– DEJAPAN accepts deliveries to home, apartment, and hotel addresses, but not forwarding services.
DEJAPAN’s Special Purchase Services
Some purchases need more than a standard “Add to Cart” process. These are areas where DEJAPAN offers additional flexibility.
Digital Items
Now, to be fair, Buyee is able to get certain digital bonuses included with physical purchases, such as a serial code bundled with a game.
But if it’s a digital product only? A downloadable doujinshi PDF? A serial code for access to a special online stream? DEJAPAN can get that item for you as its own order!
Free (0 JPY) Items
DEJAPAN is also able to purchase items that are 0 JPY on their own. Occasionally, Buyee may receive 0 JPY items as a free bonus item from sellers, but these aren’t items that they can purchase as an item itself.
But if your favorite creator has a special promo item for free? DEJAPAN can take care of that for you.
**With Buyee or DEJAPAN, these free items will need to be given a price to put on the customs invoice. Please be prepared to provide an estimated price for any 0 JPY item so your parcel can go through customs successfully.
Kuji Pulls
This is one special service that really makes DEJAPAN shine. Many big-name Japan proxies (like Buyee, ZenMarket, and Neokyo) are unable to buy individual kuji pulls from popular kuji sites like Ichiban Kuji, Kujibikido, Sega Lucky Kuji. They can only purchase prizes that are being resold on flea market and auction sites, and perhaps as one-lot sets.
DEJAPAN, however, can purchase the actual kuji pulls for you! We can even accommodate your preferences for prizes with different design selections.

Coupons and Promotions
A discount is always welcome—but only if you can actually use it. We looked at the offers available to new users, how they worked for our purchases, and what customers could receive after sharing their hauls.
Welcome Offers and Regular Coupons
Buyee
Buyee had more coupons available during our testing. After signing up, we saw 30 coupons, ranging from store-specific percentage discounts to waived service fees.

That gave us plenty to check, but not necessarily plenty to use. Store restrictions and other conditions meant most didn’t apply to our planned purchases.
Buyee also had a separate new-user offer for 10% off the first purchase when registering through a special link on its social media profiles. If you’re considering that offer, check the sign-up route and conditions before creating your account.
DEJAPAN
DEJAPAN offered fewer coupons, with two main options:
- Welcome Coupon: New users receive 500 JPY off either their 1st or 2nd Payment.
- User Rank Coupons: Users receive 1–3 coupons per month, depending on their rank, to use toward 2nd Payment.
The useful question isn’t just, “How many coupons do I get?”
It’s, “Which ones apply to what I’m buying?”
Does a Coupon Actually Make It Cheaper?
During our testing, we wanted to buy an acrylic stand from Suruga-ya. Buyee offered a 15% coupon for Mercari’s Suruga-ya store, but we checked Suruga-ya’s own website before deciding.
Here’s how the prices compared:
| Purchase Route | Item Price + Domestic Shipping |
|---|---|
| Suruga-ya’s Mercari store, with the 15% coupon | 2,767–3,267 JPY |
| Suruga-ya website | 1,120 JPY |
Buying directly from Suruga-ya’s website was 1,647–2,147 JPY cheaper than the Mercari store, even with Buyee’s 15% off coupon.
Just goes to show that checking another purchase route can save more than using a coupon.
Share Your Haul: Guaranteed Reward or Prize Draw?
Both services also run monthly campaigns for customers sharing their purchases on social media, but the rewards work differently:
- Buyee: A 700–1,000 JPY international shipping coupon for a qualifying submission.
- DEJAPAN: A chance to win a 3,000 JPY coupon through a prize draw.
Buyee offered a guaranteed reward for qualifying contributions, while DEJAPAN offered a chance to win. Each proxy has different rules though, so be sure to check the current participation rules before posting—including the required platforms, tags, and submission steps.
Which Offers Are More Useful?
Buyee offered more opportunities to find a discount during our test, particularly if your purchase matched a store-specific promotion. Meanwhile, DEJAPAN offered fewer coupons, but with more flexibility beyond specific stores. DEJAPAN’s Welcome Coupon can be used at either payment stage, while the User Rank coupons help to reduce shipping costs across your purchases.
For your own purchase, compare the amount you’ll actually save after checking the conditions. A coupon for something you weren’t planning to buy—or a listing that costs more to begin with—may not be much of a saving.
**Offers described here reflect our testing period. Check each service’s current promotions and terms before purchasing.
Referral and Loyalty Programs
Do you often recommend your proxy to friends, or prefer to earn perks through your own shopping? Buyee and DEJAPAN reward these in different ways.
Buyee: Rewards for Referrals
When someone signs up through your referral link and makes a qualifying purchase, you receive a 1,000 JPY international shipping coupon. The new user gets a 1,000 JPY shipping coupon, too.
That can be a useful bonus if you have friends or followers who enjoy shopping from Japan!
DEJAPAN: Rewards for Your Own Purchases
DEJAPAN’s User Rank program gives you benefits based on your own shopping activity.
Your rank is based on the total item value of orders with a completed 2nd Payment within the past 12 months. The higher your rank, the better the perks:
- Up to 40 extra days of free storage
- Exclusive monthly discount coupons

If you regularly shop from Japan, these benefits give you more time to build your next haul and help reduce future shipping costs.
🏆 Special Services Winner: DEJAPAN
Buyee offered more promotions during our testing, but DEJAPAN stood out for the flexibility of its services. From kuji pulls and standalone digital items to specific photo requests and price negotiations, it gives shoppers more ways to get what they’re looking for.
Its coupons also offer flexibility beyond specific stores, while the User Rank program rewards your own purchases with monthly discounts and extra free storage.
For shoppers who need more than a standard purchase, that combination earns DEJAPAN the win for this round.
10. Processing Timeline: From Sign-Up to Final Delivery
So, how do Buyee and DEJAPAN stack up against each other in terms of speed? Let’s take a look at how their order timelines compare—from sign-up to final delivery.
Step-By-Step Timeline
Overall, it took about a month for us to receive both parcels. However, there was a 5-day difference between the two.

Buyee’s Timeline
From start to finish, it took nearly a month (21 days) for us to get our Buyee orders in Canada.
Order
We wanted to buy some items from external websites, so we decided to use Buyee’s Order Request form for one order, and the browser extension for the other one.
As we mentioned in Section 5, it took a little more time for our request order to actually be purchased due to Buyee’s “order confirmation” requirement. It took nearly 24 hours for our Request Form item to be “confirmed” (on Day 2).
**The browser extension order bypassed the confirmation step.
Once we paid for both items on Day 3, it took 2-3 days for Buyee to actually purchase our items. Thank goodness they were still available by then. 😰
Warehouse & Consolidation
One of our orders arrived really fast—the next day, actually! The other item arrived 5 days after Buyee bought it. Not too bad, honestly.
Our items were also packed up pretty quick after we requested consolidation. The turnaround time was literally a day. We were impressed.
Shipping
Once our orders were packed, we paid for Buyee’s 2nd Payment immediately. To our surprise, our package shipped out the next day!
The AIR Packet shipping—from leaving the warehouse to delivery on our doorstep—took about 10 days in total. Pretty decent timing for what we paid.
Doorstep
Once we opened the package and checked our items, we were pleased to find that our items were packed safely and securely, with no damage to the box.
Although, we did find it interesting that both items were still packed in the exact same packing as when it was delivered to Buyee’s warehouse. It probably helped to keep the items secure in the box, but it did take up more space than the items themselves. If they removed the items from the original shipping material and packed them as-is, perhaps the box could have been a little smaller (and the shipping fee a little lower).
DEJAPAN’s Timeline
DEJAPAN turned out to be a little faster than Buyee, taking a total of 16 days for the whole process.
Order
Unlike Buyee, DEJAPAN doesn’t require any additional confirmation checks before placing an order. Our orders were accepted right away, and were completed within 24 hours (by Day 2).
We do acknowledge that some DEJAPAN orders may take longer to process if there is information that must be confirmed with the customer, such as:
- New information from the seller
- Missing/incorrect item information (item URL, price, quantity, option selection, etc.)
- Quantity changes
But honestly, we’d rather be fully informed than having it canceled right away. Or worse—processed without checking with us first! We appreciate the attention to detail.
Warehouse & Consolidation
Similar to Buyee, our orders arrived at DEJAPAN’s warehouse at different times. They both arrived around between 2 and 5 days.
**Note: The orders that arrived later for both Buyee and DEJAPAN were from Suruga-ya.
We requested packing as soon as we were able, and they were packed within 2 days. A little longer than Buyee, but maybe DEJAPAN’s warehouse team was busy with everyone trying to pack and ship out their items before the upcoming holiday. Who’s to say?
Shipping
To keep our testing consistent, we completed 2nd Payment right away. And much like Buyee, our parcel shipped out the next day!
Surprisingly, DEJAPAN’s Small Packet shipping turned out to be faster than Buyee’s AIR Packet option. It arrived in Canada after only 7 days. Talk about speedy!
Doorstep
After opening the box, we found that there were several sheets of bubble wrap creating a barrier between the box and the items. One of our smaller items (card sleeves) was also wrapped in bubble wrap.
Unlike Buyee, we noticed that the original shipping envelopes/boxes were removed from the items before they were packed. Each item was kept inside their original item packaging (box, plastic sleeve, etc.).
Order Status and Tracking Clarity
Both the Buyee app and DEJAPAN provided some sort of progress tracker for our orders. Their presentation styles were pretty different, but having a visual marker helped us feel like our order was actually moving along.
Buyee
Buyee’s progress tracker showed us 6 steps from the time of order placement (or “confirmation”) to the time the item arrives at their warehouse. We especially liked the timestamps for each step, showing when it was completed. Having clear dates and times gave us a better idea of how much time each order takes from start to finish.

DEJAPAN
We wouldn’t really say that DEJAPAN has a “progress tracker” in the traditional sense. Rather, each step of the order is presented as a category on your account’s MyPage, with several sub-categories within each step. The sub-categories can get pretty detailed, and are most useful for the “Orders at Our Warehouse” category.

That being said, DEJAPAN’s setup isn’t as clean as a simple timeline, and can get a little confusing if you don’t understand all the categories. We also wished we could see the date for each step, but all we could see was the date the order was placed. The only way to check the specific times was through the email notifications.
🏆 Processing Speed Winner: DEJAPAN
In many aspects, Buyee and DEJAPAN’s processing speeds were fairly similar. However, DEJAPAN proved to be faster not only in the actual ordering of the items, but also with the shipping timeline.
**To be fair, shipping times can vary significantly, depending on weather, geographical events, and customs processing.
While it took Buyee nearly 5 days to actually purchase our Request Form items (due to the additional “availability check”), it only took DEJAPAN 1 business day to purchase our Request Form items. While we understand that Buyee’s processing may be faster with partnered sites and platforms (like Mercari or JDirectItems), the above timeline was what we experienced with our particular order.
11. Final Cost Comparison: What We Actually Paid
After tallying up all the different fees and payments from our testing, we found that DEJAPAN turned out to be cheaper than Buyee by a significant margin.
| Order Payment Breakdown | Buyee | DEJAPAN |
|---|---|---|
| Item Price | 2,770 | 2,770 |
| Service Fees | 1,000 | 600 |
| Flea Market/Auction Fees | 0 | 0 |
| Payment/Transaction Fees | 0 | 123 |
| Optional Plan Fees | 1,000 | 0 |
| ※ 1st Payment Total | ※ 4,770 JPY | ※ 3,493 JPY |
| Domestic Shipping | 1,100 | 0 |
| Consolidation | 0 | 0 |
| International Shipping | 1,893 | 1,900 |
| Other Charges | 240 (Suruga-ya) | 240 (Suruga-ya) |
| ※ 2nd Payment Total | ※ 3,233 JPY | ※ 2,140 JPY |
| FINAL TOTAL PAID | 8,003 JPY | 5,633 JPY |
In total, we paid 2,370 JPY less with DEJAPAN than with Buyee. Even with the same item prices and store types (including 1 Suruga-ya item for both orders), as well as comparable shipping methods, DEJAPAN proved to be a better deal for both 1st and 2nd Payment.
Perhaps this result may differ depending on the number of items and the store (e.g, flea market sites). But for our 2-item request form orders, DEJAPAN came out on top.
12. Conclusion: Which Proxy Offers the Best Overall Value?
Without a doubt, both proxy services have their strengths and weaknesses.
Buyee certainly has the upper hand when it comes to large, multi-item orders from the same store, or flea market/auction purchases. Plus, their browser extension and wide array of payment methods and shipping options makes Japan shopping feel more accessible to a wide variety of customers.
DEJAPAN also holds its own, offering personable flexibility in their customer service and special services, as well as extensive storage limits and quick order processing.
But who comes out on top? Buyee or DEJAPAN?
The Final Verdict
After tallying up all the “wins” for each proxy from our testing, it looks like DEJAPAN is the winner of this battle.
- 2nd Payment (Shipping)
- Customer Service
- 1st Payment
- Storage Limits
- Special Services
- Processing Speed
- Before You Buy
DEJAPAN not only offers a better price value for orders like ours, but it also offers more value for its service. It’s in the extra details customers may not think about—meaningful customer service, fast purchasing, comfortable storage limits, and unique order capabilities (like kuji and digital items).
Our experience with Buyee wasn’t by any means bad or hard to use. It’s a perfectly adequate proxy service that gets the job done. DEJAPAN just happens to perform a little better.
